Clinical Graduate Student Colin Tidwell is one of only two students at the University of Arizona to be awarded the Dr. Maria Teresa Velez Diversity Leadership Scholarship for 2024-25 academic year! This award is given annually to a doctoral student who has demonstrated a commitment to furthering diversity through their teaching, research, or outreach and service. Colin has significantly contributed to diversity and inclusivity through his involvement in LGBTQ+ advocacy, mental health awareness, and diversity science research.  In his graduate research, he focuses on mental health disparities among underrepresented groups, oversees an NIH-funded project on adolescent suicidality, and recently published an acclaimed "how-to" guide for mitigating minority stress experienced by graduate students in training as clinical psychologists. Additionally, Colin actively promotes DEI within the Psychology Department, the broader Tucson community, and professional circles through leadership roles, advocacy for gender-inclusive facilities, and volunteering with community organizations. Our sincere admiration and thanks to Colin for championing these important initiatives.

Congratulations, Colin!
