The Human Spatial Cognition Lab is recruiting healthy adults to understand how the brain and body react to stress during navigation and how navigation behavior changes as a result.

Procedure:

In this study, you will learn to travel set routes in a large city on desktop virtual reality and then you will be given a navigation test. In all conditions, you will learn the set routes first. Then you will experience one of three conditions:

  1. A minor physical stressor before taking the navigation test
  2. A mental stressor during the navigation test
  3. No stressor before taking the navigation test

You will experience all 3 conditions over the course of 3 days, one on each day. The project requires meeting with a researcher for three 2-3 hour sessions over the course of 3 days, for a total duration of up to 9 hours of participation.

Other data that may be collected:

  • Saliva samples
  • Heart rate
  • Brain measurements
  • Eye tracking data
  • Self-response measures of cognitive ability

Participant Eligibility:

To participate in this study, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • 18-35 years of age

  • Have good vision or corrected vision

  • Have no formal diagnosis of PTSD

  • Speak English fluently

Compensation:

You will be paid $20 per hour (or up to 4 SONA credits for students) for your participation.
