Health and Brain Vulnerability in Midlife
Cognition is the most important determinant of functional ability and quality of life in older age. Despite recurrent news-flashes of some “latest breakthrough” in research and palliation, as it stands, unfortunately, there is no cure for dementia. In this talk, I will discuss the use of magnetic resonance imaging to explore the underlying neural mechanisms of brain vulnerability related to obesity and metabolic dysfunction. In addition, I will explore the roles of nutrition, physical activity and non-invasive transcranial laser stimulation to support cognitive function in vulnerable populations. The ultimate goal of this work is to guide efforts to prevent and treat late-life cognitive impairment, and ensure successful aging for our growing population of elderly.

For this special event, we are teaming up with Psi Chi to bring together graduate student speakers from four different disciplines related to psychology to discuss their experiences in graduate school, the challenges they may have faced, and how they recommend promoting diversity, inclusivity, and equity for graduate students. 
We hope to promote awareness, encourage discussions, and inform policies that may improve the experiences of graduate students. We also hope to empower future graduate students.
