My main research interests are in memory and memory disorders, particularly those kinds of memory problems that arise as a result of brain damage or as a consequence of normal aging. In my laboratory, my students and I are trying to learn more about what happens to various kinds of memory processes when individuals age, both normally or pathologically, or receive an insult to the brain. By studying people who have experienced changes in their brian, we hope to be able to map particular memory behaviors and processes onto particualr brain regions. We are also developing rehabilitation techniques to help people with memory disorders use processes that are preserved to compensate for those that have been lost. Current projects include the study of source memory, emotional memories, face recognition, and self-reference. We also have studies aimed at finding preclinical markers of Alzheimer's disease.
