The University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership (HCP), a unit within the Psychology Department, was featured in the Indian Health Service (IHS) January 2024 Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Quarterly Newsletter: Working To Support Wellness!

  • The Navajo Area IHS Office offered three specialized Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills (BTIS) certifications focused on Maternal and Child Health from October to December 2023. The trainings were provided in partnership with the University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership’s Tobacco Dependence Treatment Continuing Education Programs to address and prevent commercial tobacco use among pregnant and postpartum women in native communities.
  • IHS Area HP/DP Coordinators and BTIS Instructors participated in the University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership’s launch of its updated Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills (BTIS) Certification for Native Communities in December 2023. Participants were provided with a copy of the updated BTIS for Native Communities guidebooks, recertified as BTIS instructors, and participants provided constructive feedback for potential future integration.
