My name is Nathan Gallegos and I am a Psychology graduate student in the Cognition and Neural Systems program where I study Alzheimer's disease. I am a Tucson native and received my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science from the University of Arizona. My career goal is to become an Alzheimer's disease researcher studying the early stages of the disease.  

Research Interests:

  • Early detection and early understanding of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Use of neuroimaging methods, such as magnetic resonance imaging, to image the brain - both to analyze brain volume as well as white matter integrity.
  • Major risk factors associated with Alzheimer's disease and how they impact the healthy older adult brain.
    • The primary risk factor that I am interested in is having a family history of Alzheimer's disease and how it impacts the brain and its function.
    • Other risk factors that I study include the apolipoprotein e4 (APOE-4) gene, education level, sex, and age.
  • Characterizing the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease to better predict who will and who will not go on to develop Alzheimer's disease in the future.
