Information for Current Students

If you are currently a Psychology major and have questions about the curriculum requirements or what catalog you fall under please contact the Psychology Advising Center at (520) 621-7439 or you may stop by the Psychology Building, Room 312 to make an appointment to see your Academic Advisor.

Curriculum requirements vary for all Psychology majors, they are dependent upon your catalog year and whether you are pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. You can find your curriculum requirements by going to the general UA catalog web page at http://catalog.arizona.edu/ and clicking on the appropriate academic catalog. Your Psychology major advisor can also answer any questions you may have about your general education curriculum requirements.

There are a variety of opportunities for current Psychology majors to gain experience to help them prepare for a career or graduate school. Students can become involved in independent study, practicum, internship or preceptorship for credit and experience.  Faculty members must sponsor students for independent study and perceptorships; Faculty members or Christy Ball, in the advising center, can sponsor students for practicum and internships. Information regarding these opportunities are posted on the research assistantship board on the third floor of the Psychology building and are also distributed to students over the psychology listserv in the monthly newsletter. For more information about these opportunities, please visit the Psychology Advising Website or contact the Psychology Advising Center.  If you would like to be added to the listserv please email psycinfo@email.arizona.edu with your first and last name and your U of A email address.

If you are interested in a career in Psychology or pursuing graduate school you can use the resource manual compiled by the Advising Center. It is available for you to pick up in the Psychology Building, Room 312.  This resource manual provides information regarding the various areas of psychology, general information on applying to graduate school, how to write a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and other information pertinent to your preparation for graduate school. You can also visit Career Services, which is located in the Student Union Memorial Center, Suite 411. Career Counselors are available to assist you in writing resumes and personal statements. You can visit the career services web site for more information http://www.career.arizona.edu.

Students who are approaching their final semester before graduation should make an appointment with their Advisor in the Psychology Department to begin their Official Senior Degree Check. Again you can stop by the Psychology Building, Room 312 or call (520) 621-7439 to set up an appointment. Information on the degree check process can be found on the Psychology Advising Center Website under graduation.

Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions to find answers to other questions you may have. Please check this site first before emailing your Advisor; the answer to your question may be a click away!
